Suzuki to Launch Electric Vehicles in India First, Nikkei Reports

Japan car sales
Suzuki plans to introduce battery EVs in Europe and India, and its first battery electric motorcycles globally, in 2024.

Japanese compact car maker Suzuki Motor will release its first all-electric vehicle by 2025, Nikkei has reported.

The new EV will be released first in India, Suzuki’s stronghold where it has a market share of about 50%, to be followed by launches in Japan and Europe.

The first EV model will be made available for 1.5 million yen ($13,700) or less, after government subsidies are taken into account.

EV sales have been slow in India, the world’s fifth-largest auto market, with annual sales of 3 million units. The country, though, has a goal of making 30% of new car sales electric by 2030.
