Indian conglomerate Tata Sons is working on merging low-fare airline AirAsia India with Air India’s no-frills carrier Air India Express, The Economic Times reported quoting top officials aware of the developments.

Tata group, which is in the process of taking over Air India, is looking to reduce operational costs.

Tata owns an 84% stake in AirAsia India and the move to create a single airline entity can be completed in a short span of the time, the report said, citing the unidentified officials.
