As electric vehicle (EV) makers from Tesla to Hyundai expand the range of their cars, the need for ultrafast charging technology has only increased, with charging time becoming a key factor for a potential customer, Nikkei Asia reported.
While Tesla spearheaded the art of fast-charging EVs with the development of a 250-kilowatt (kW) charger for its Model 3, which can travel 275 kilometres on a 15-minute charge, Hyundai’s latest Ioniq 5 EV, which supports a fast charger with an output of 350kW, can travel 220km on a five-minute charge, the report said.
