China Censors Swoop on ‘Five-Year Zero-Covid’ Quote – CNN

Chinese censors moved quickly to amend a quote from a top Communist Party official warning that Beijing’s tough ‘zero-Covid’ policies could remain in force for another five years, a report by CNN said.

The Beijing Daily, the state newspaper in the Chinese capital, had earlier in the day reported remarks by the city’s party chief, Cai Qi, saying that pandemic control measures could remain in place for “the next five years,” said the CNN story, but that timeline reference then later disappeared from the Daily’s report after an “online backlash.”
