North Korea claims “alien things” were the source of its recent coronavirus outbreak that affected nearly 20% of its estimated 25 million people, in a veiled reference to rival South Korea, The Washington Post reported.
State media appeared to imply that human rights propaganda leaflets dropped in from the South, as well as flash drives and cash sent across the border could carry the virus, the story said. Relations are likely to deteriorate further as the South’s new president, Yoon Suk-yeol, is expected to take a less conciliatory approach to Pyongyang than his predecessor, according to the report.
