(AF) British ministers have cut state funding to Britain’s biggest microchip factory after its sale to a Chinese-owned technology company, the Telegraph reported late on Tuesday.
UK Research and Investment suspended payments to Newport Wafer Fab on government orders after its sale to Nexperia, the newspaper reported. The government acted after it emerged that Newport Wafer Fab is part of a scheme to use advanced semiconductor technology to support cutting-edge radar and satellite systems, alongside several defence companies. Nexperia is a Dutch company owned by China’s Wingtech, it said.
