China Asks Residents to Stay Put For Spring Festival – Global Times

As Omicron infections spread from Tianjin to Henan Province, officials in several regions, including Beijing, have urged residents to stay put during the upcoming Spring Festival, and tightened their Covid-19 prevention policies, Global Times reported.

Anyang, a city with a population of 5 million in central China’s Henan Province, is the latest city – after Xian, Zhengzhou and Tianjin – in recent weeks to begin city-wide testing and impose strict Covid-19 prevention measures. These include stopping outbound railway, bus and taxi services, after 26 Covid-19 cases were reported in the past two days. Two cases involved the Omicron variant, the same highly infectious variant found in Tianjin, Hong Kong and other places.
