(ATF) China has developed a drone that can carry loads of up to 100 kilograms. Developed by Fengfei Aviation Technology, the project has been under wraps until now.
The Shanghai firm lists possible applications as diverse as logistics to medical rescues.
The maximum take-off weight is 400 kg including a load of up to 100kg.
The company has called the drone the v400 Albatross. It made its maiden flight in November 2019 and had its global debut at the World UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) Conference in September this year.
After continuous upgrades and little changes to the v400 model, it has conducted multiple flight tests at the UAV base in East China, and accumulated an amount of flight time and data that makes the company confident it could have a successful future.
The electric powered v400 Albatross is an important model of Fengfei Aviation Technology’s large-scale vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
It has a maximum range of 300 kilometres at full load and a maximum range of 1,000 kilometres for the hybrid version.
The v400 Albatross will be applied to scenarios such as material transportation, fast logistics, medical rescue and fire emergency, and will play a a great role in the “transportation” sector, the firm hopes.
Next, Fengfei will actively participate in the low-altitude “intelligent” logistics transportation and airworthiness certification for UAVs, as drones are formally known, between sites in the “Civil Unmanned Aviation Pilot Area”, and perform round-trip air logistics transportation tasks.
Fengfei Aviation Technology Group is a technology company that specializes in the research and development and the manufacture of autonomous vehicles.
The company is headquartered in Shanghai, with R&D centers in Munich, Shenzhen, and Germany.
At present, it has completed the layout of a variety of products in the field of electric vertical take-off and landing aircraft, including large-scale ‘intelligent’ logistics aircraft, ‘intelligent’ fire emergency aircraft, and self-driving manned aircraft.
