China ramps up production of masks

(ATF) – Six of China’s major state-owned enterprises have combined resources to create facilities to manufacture the special cloth needed for masks and medical equipment, according to The Workers’ Daily.

Under instructions from a State Council subcommittee, Sinomach, Sinopec, PetroChina, Weapon Industry Group, Xinxingjihua Group, COFCO Group, and Weaponry Equipment Group were told to combine resources.

Production facilities were built across the country, such as a plant manned by 600 workers that was established on the outskirts of Beijing.

Following the original order on February 7, a mask industry supply chain was established in 12 days, the paper reported.

By February 29, the daily output of masks – ordinary masks, medical masks, and medical N95 masks – had reached 116 million nationwide, which was 12 times the total being produced at the start of the month.

The Chinese government plans to continue the scaled-up production of masks and related medical equipment.
