China seeks foreign landing rights for Hainan

(ATF) China’s aviation authority has unveiled a plan to allow foreign airlines to fly to and from the under-construction Hainan Free Trade Port (FTP).

The move announced Tuesday is the latest to create a major trade and tourism hub in the southern island province.

Authorities will seek so-called Seventh Freedom of the Air status for the island, meaning another country’s planes can carry passengers to and from its airport and a third-party destination.

The number of passenger and cargo flights will be limited to seven per week, according to the plan issued by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
