China to make coronavirus measures part of regular controls

(ATF) – China is to incorporate the strict measures taken to limit the spread of coronavirus into its regular control procedures.

Among the steps to be taken as a matter of course will be tougher monitoring of land borders to prevent infected visitors entering the country.

At a meeting presided over by Premier Li Keqiang it was decided that measures of early discovery, reporting, quarantine and treatment should be fully implemented, according to a report by Xinhua on Monday.

Such actions have proven to be the most effective steps to prevent any rebound of local epidemics, the meeting was told.

Cases involving confirmed, suspected and asymptomatic patients should be quickly reported and dealt with, and made public in an open, transparent and practical manner, the report said.

Medical management and epidemiological investigation of asymptomatic patients should also be thoroughly conducted, along with those who test positive again after being discharged from hospital.

Prevention and control of clustering infections should be stuck to, and efforts should be improved in communities, and at ports and border areas to rein in the epidemic, the Xinhua report said.

The move follows widespread criticism of China’s calculation of infections after it emerged that authorities had not initially included asymptomatic patients in their tallies.
