Chinese company Envision plans a dramatic expansion of its ‘gigafactory’ in northern England. It also plans to spin off its division that produces batteries for electric vehicles, the FT says.
CEO Zhang Lei, said the company will boost annual production at its manufacturing plant in Sunderland from 2024 as part of a partnership with Nissan UK and that output would rise from 1.7 gigawatt hours to 11GWh when its new plant opens, and eventually hit 38GWh – producing batteries for hundreds of thousands of cars a year. Envision also has a ‘gigafactory’ planned in Douai, France, in a deal with Renault. That facility is also due to open in 2024.
