US justice department has accused Beijing of using espionage to modernise its industries

An American court has convicted a senior Chinese intelligence officer of trying to steal aviation-related technology secrets from General Electric, reports The Financial Times. 

The US justice department said a federal jury in Ohio had found Xu Yanjun, a senior Ministry of State Security officer, guilty of attempting to commit economic espionage. Xu was arrested in Belgium in 2018 after he was lured by US agents who were tracking him. Full story: Financial Times
