German naval officers have a right to their opinion. However, the leadership of the Bundeswehr has neither mandate nor authority to make politics itself, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung reported.

When Vice Admiral Kay-Achim Schönbach characterised Russian President Vladimir Putin as an equal partner and ally against China, he didn’t exactly have the depth of a German frigate.
