India and Russia may soon start using each other’s national payment systems in a move that would help circumvent Western sanctions on Russia, India’s Deccan Herald reported, citing unnamed sources.
The plan being discussed by the two nations would enable the use of Russia’s Mir cards at India ATMs and Point of Sale terminals, and India’s RuPay cards in Russia, said the report. The move was discussed during India National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s visit to Moscow last week, it added.
