Mercedes Removes Ad After China Netizen Backlash – Global Times

Clip triggered a wide debate over depictions of Asian-looking features by foreign companies

Carmaker Mercedes-Benz removed a controversial video advertisement from Chinese social media website Weibo, the Global Times reported, after the clip triggered a wide debate over depictions of Asian-looking features by foreign companies.

Mercedes-Benz’s video advertisement was published on its official Weibo account on December 25, in which the company used male and female models to promote new products, the report said, adding that the makeup of the female model looked like slanted eyes.
