Myanmar Maize Prices Soar on Kyat Plunge – New Light

The rise in prices is attributed to the steady foreign demand and the kyat weakening against the US dollar

The price of maize has soared to more than 1,000 kyats per viss (35 cents per kilogram), the Global New Light of Myanmar reported, citing the Yangon Region Chambers of Commerce and Industry.

The rise in prices is attributed to the steady foreign demand and the kyat weakening against the US dollar. The price stands at $310-330 per tonne, up from $250 in December 2021.
