Australia’s Qantas Airways has asked top executives to swap desk jobs for three months loading and unloading customer luggage, according to a report by the South China Morning Post and other outlets, as the airline struggles to keep pace with returning demand for global travel.

Qantas is seeking at least 100 volunteers from its head office to work at Sydney and Melbourne airports, a note by chief operating officer Colin Hughes said, adding that they must be able haul suitcases that weigh as much as 32kg. Worker shortages had forced the airline to cancel 8% of domestic services in June, it added.
