Why Singapore Coexists With Covid, But Not Hong Kong – Caixin

Cramped living space, relatively low vaccination rate among elderly residents and potential spillover effects on the mainland make ‘living with the virus’ unviable for Hong Kong, Caixin reported, adding that as a metropolis, where Chinese and Western cultures meet, there are different views on whether to choose the “coexistence” or “zero tolerance” approach.

By comparison, Singapore, with a population and city size similar to those of Hong Kong, has been reporting record-high numbers of Covid-19 cases, even more than 10,000 cases a day several times, but Singaporeans seem to have adapted to the “coexistence” model, and its healthcare system has not been heavily affected.
